NAME THAT WOOD!

NOT A SLIVER OF MAPLE HERE...

July 1, 2012

Yeah, not a Strat or S-type of any sort-- but check out the wood folks, and it ain't maple either!

This is the work of Finland based Ruokangas Guitars-- from their Duke model series. Ruokangas also does an S-type they call "VSOP", as well as their MOJO series of T-types.

Oh, and the wood pictured above is Arctic Birch for the top and fretboard. The body & neck underneath is Spanish Cedar. So, no mahogany either. But what about the tone? Well, master luthier Juha Ruokangas is about tone first, without fixed ideas about wood types.

The debut issue of Guitar Connoisseur Magazine includes a feature on Ruokangas contributed by yours truly! Get ready to discover more about fine guitar building!
