Music Man's Strattiest model is their Silhouette, and here's their Strattiest Silhouette configuration. With 3 singles and a classic burst finish-- on the headstock as well, this is a Silhouette you don't often see. A bit sportier than a standard Strat, the Silhouette features 24 frets and a neck heel contour to make those high frets accessible. The 10" radius neck has a gunstock oil fast finish, and locking tuners are standard.
The Perfect Guitar of Baton Rouge, LA currently lists this guitar as new with case included. They're an EB/MM dealer with several MM's listed, including a few Petrucci's and some Reflexes too.
"PRAYING THROUGH THE GUITAR" Two Guitar Giants Discuss Music and Conquering Addiction
Our good friend Jack Pribek of Snake Oil blog discovered an AMAZING interview of Stevie Ray Vaughan by fusion guitar legend Larry Coryell. Jack has a vague recollection of this originally being published in Musician Magazine, but not positive. The current source page doesn't indicate. And surprisingly, there are little Google results about this. The discussion took place at the release of SRV's final album "In Step"; also the period following his recovery.
25% Tele - 25% Strat - 50% Texas (And they don't make these anymore!)
Finally, something to go with that Western shirt!
Here's another NOS Robin Ranger listed by Santa Cruz based Sylvan Music, who has a few remaining Robin models they're closing out. Remember that Robin has stopped building guitars, now focusing only on their Rio Grande pickups line. So new Robin guitars are becoming scarce. These are cool Tele-Strat hybrid guitars with plenty of Texas vibe.
Sylvan currently has a couple Rangers, as well as a couple Savoy Tonemonger models which are even more Strat-like.
I love copper Strats! I have a thing for copper in general, i.e. copper flashing, copper bar tops. Even the fact that pennies aren't actually copper disturbs me. More disturbing than that is the plastic counting pennies used by pre-schools which sell for $3.00 per 100 ct. packs -- made in China. That's right, you read right! A social studies lesson built right in.
Really digressed there...
Yeah, so this new 2011 FCS is part of a limited Pro Series Closet Classics run utilizing 100 year old pine bodies, and fusing vintage with contemporary features. The 22 frets and 2 point trem combine with classic fat "C" neck at 9.5" radius, with 6100 JUMBO frets. The aged & checked copper finish is nitro. Maple has a dark tint. Includes standard candy, COA and case as pictured.
Seller: Custom Metal and Classic Guitars- of Vineland, NJ has a diverse inventory of new hi-end guitars. Also, check out their new FCS Shoreline Gold Jazzmaster!
customguitarboutique.com of NYC is now a dealer for Divine Noise instrument cable. Gil Divine of Portland, Oregon has been a touring gear tech for several artists. And has now set up shop to produce hi-grade pro cable. AND it's even available in orange, along with 30+ other colors-- curly cable too!
Kelcey at CGB is handling orders for any custom length and plug config, including Y cables. Check specs above, and contact CGB for cost & delivery quotes.
Our friend Andy is currently selling this 2006 Fender CS Teambuild '64 Gold Sparkle Strat. The pin-up is the same decal as on Joe Bonamassa's "Goldie" model, just recently auctioned by Bonhams with a bunch of Clapton gear to benefit the Antigua Rehab center. That particular decal is very hard to find-- and I suspect out of print, until somebody in that biz gets wise about guitar culture.
For details on the Strat pictured, you'll need to look up "Andy Summa" at Facebook, and message him.
Ya gotta get over to GuitarSquid.com for tons of crazy guitar related web finds! Oh... like this one for instance.
This could be like the basement at NAMM, which only a couple hillbilly's know about. Each year, a handful of attendees are abducted from the main trade show floor areas, taken downstairs and subjected to... Well, you know. Subjected to the "Zed's Effects Lounge".
This pic is bright, actual color is deeper. Listing has lots of pics.
Here's something for a sunny May Friday! Hoping yours is sunny. Hey, I'm in Oregon, so knock friggin' wood! ASH!!!
This 2011 Fender Custom Shop ash Strat has an orange tint they're calling "Sunset Orange". Nice! I smell the Grand Marnier just lookin' at this. Closeups of the neck reveal nice little flecks of birdseye that make me think of the freckles on Gwyneth Paltrow's arms on the June '11 cover of Bon Appetit. Or not...
Panther Guitars of Princeton, NJ is listing this Strat at their eBay Store. They're 100% positive with lots of good feedback.
VOX AC30 H2L Limited Edition (cabinet only- no amp/speakers)
Here are more interesting eBay listings from Chattanooga, TN based Guitar Galleria. These guys are 100% positive with lots of ratings history.
The copper finished Trussart is crazy! And if you wanna dress up your AC30 on those special occasions check out the mahogany cabinet.
Guitar Galleria is listing plenty of nice, new & vintage gear. Mostly Taylor acoustics, but they have some Fender CS, Nash and Gibson items too. Trussart is starting to grow on me-- and the copper thing really got my attention!
We don't get to find out. But one thing for certain, it takes more work than smashing up a Gibby. Another thing is that we see Pete playing a Strat in '67. So this is for the Gibby geeks who think Townshend only started playing a Strat for Super Bowl XLIV (44). End of story.
Popular Youtube guitar gear demo personality Bobby DeVito was finally able to accomplish what no Hollywood collie dared. In spite of decades of onscreen heroics attributed to Lassie, it wasn't until just recently that former child star Jon Provost was finally discovered alive, and rescued from a well that even his faithful K-9 costar was unable to confront. "Unwilling was more like it!", says Provost, now 62 who cites petty off camera jealousy issues behind his final well incident, a cover-up by show producers long since dead-- and costing the beloved "Timmy Martin" character nearly 50 years of survival on water bugs, algae and a tattered copy of Ayn Rand's "Anthem"-- only readable by a 3 minute daily ray of light during summer months.
DeVito, a huge fan of the Lassie television series since childhood, has kept in touch with the show's former fan club members. Operating on a recent anonymous tip that Provost might still be surviving in a Key West, Florida area well, Bobby quickly organized rescue efforts with the aid of two close friends, utilizing only an 80's Japanese Stratocaster, 25' of cable and his trusty Pignose amp.
The above video footage documents post rescue celebrations along with re-enactment demo sections. A very happy Jon Provost- seen in white t-shirt,- gets the clip's final word with understandably harsh comments about the collie, which had to be bleeped. Provost is currently seeking damages from Classic Media, owners of the Lassie trademarks.
Yeah, he ain't playin' a Strat, but Haley's Pops deserves major friggin' KUDOS here for rockin' it with his little girl on American Idol last night! At first glance I knew he wasn't from the house band-- and thought maybe Steven Tyler had pulled Whitford in for this one. Then I was perplexed about who the hell this was! Pappa Reinhart is a badass guitar player!
Note: Any video I post is gonna get removed soon, so get over to Youtube NOW and check it!
Oh BTW, more than a few weeks ago I picked Haley to win this year. It's pretty much a done deal since the other 2 remaining contestants are both Country singers, which will split that demographic's vote next week leaving Reinhart the last pin standing in the alley. And nice pins they are indeed!
How's this for some skanky personality! Just the kind of thing one seeks after listening to Michael Landau and drinkin' IPA all afternoon.
guitargalleriaauctions of Chattanooga, TN lists this schitzorelic specimen as "New". Always funny to think about with something aged this much. I mean the dealer could unpack one of these and drag it behind the pickup truck a couple times around the block before shipping it to you. And you'd probably say, "Hot Damn! That Bill Nash sure does one helluva job on these babies!" Hypothetically speaking of course.
But seriously folks. Comes with a nice case, Lollar AlNiCo 2 scatterwounds, 9.5" C neck with "medium jumbo" frets (probably 6105's) and an alder body weighing in at 7.95 lbs. And that burst coming through the top strap wear spot looks like friggin' fire on water! A reminder not to drink when boating for recreational purposes or otherwise.
Breakthrough Guitar Speakers Finally on the Shelves!
Dial the control on the speaker magnet for attenuation!
Back in January 2010, Eminence introduced their Flux Density Modulation "FDM" speakers, but the speakers weren't available until recently. Jon at Guitar Noize blog just posted a great review with demo clips. Some may recall Billy Penn's NAMM 2010 interview with the Eminence folks-- Billy was so excited, he had trouble talking!
And this IS very exciting stuff! An adjustable magnetic field attenuation speaker is a long time coming, and ideal for guitar players. These should have been created decades ago, and could have been. It's just that nobody would want this but guitar players. Instead, we've had power attenuators i.e. the Altair and Scholz Power Soak since the 70's, which actually rob tone...
Our friend Keith at Nightwatcher's House of Rock blog posted an insightful feature about this just released Rory Gallagher album. Discover the story behind it, along with some interesting historical perspectives on the Irish guitar legend. Around here we consider Gallagher to be the architect of the relic Strat.
Dig the little mustang horsey inlays runnin' across the fretboard! A little Steve McQueen should be riding the lead pony!
Garret Park Guitars of Anapolis, MD is listing this FCS Ford Mustang 35th Anniversary tribute Strat. 35 of these were produced in 1999. According what looks like the orig. press release info included in the listing, 20 of these went to Ford execs-- and 15 were giveaways presented at a series of events celebrating the car's anniversary that year. Don't confuse this with '07's Shelby GT Limited Strats.
The listing contains several good photos, including COA close-ups you can read. The body, listed simply as "chrome", is actually a hollow aluminum Strat body from 1994, originally utilized for the chromed Harley-Davidson Anniversary Strat series. The Mustang tribute includes several style cues from the car including ornament, radio knobs and mustang silhouette inlays (my favorite feature) on a sweet lookin' birdseye neck. As none of these were retailed, the value is arbitrary. Just know that only 35 exist, and this one has all candy, COA's and OHSC, plus daphne blue gig bag.
Seller has good feedback rating, history and hi-end inventory.
Has anyone seen these color coded Leiva Strings for guitar and bass? The above illustration shows a guitar set in which each of the 7 whole notes has its own color-- the gray representing sharps and flats which are plain uncolored. Or you can get piano style sets with two colors, representing black key notes and white key notes (any two colors you want). Or a 3 color "tri-tone" scheme is available.
Designed for beginners or the guitarist deciding to learn notation, Leiva also offers teaching/learning materials with their colored strings.
I do not know the type of color material used, how well it stays intact or if it affects tone. If you have an application for this idea as a student, instructor or retailer or product questions just contact Leiva at the link above!
Custom Strat Replica #4 of 100 (actually of 33) listed at eBay
This week's Friday Strat is a day late, due to a some technical issues with the host servers.
Based on a Strat originally built for SRV by the late Charlie Wirz, the above guitar is from a series of replicas produced by Rene Martinez and Charlie's Guitar Guitar Shop in Dallas, TX.
Seller: raven_black62 - 100% feedback. (This seller lists some crazy stuff! Click here for all items directory.) The listing description is interesting enough to include below in it's entirety. A bit of surfing around the web confirms or at least aligns with this info. Read carefully and do your own due diligence ok!
The "Fracturecaster" featured in our header is the creation of Portland, Oregon artist/luthier/amp builder Phil Sylvester who kindly allows me to use the image. The above video is a profile on Phil by Oregon Public Broadcasting. Fracturecaster was an experiment with tone and resonance, and is an actual playable instrument. Sadly, Fracturecaster is a one-off, and not available for sale. Some of Sylvester's other guitar creations are available. Check the links below!
I know this is just wrong, but the FLYCASTER might be something to wall mount behind the bar along with the stuffed armadillo, the jackalope and Pee Wee's white platform tequila shoes.
CAPITOL-GUITARS- of St. Paul, MN is listing this weirdnosity. Made in China by/for Indy Custom, Capitol is selling this adult novelty item for $295 shipped. And they say only 100 will be made, although it's hard to imagine only 100 of anything produced in China. Maybe it was a mistake! Yeah that's it. The machine spit out 100 of these before someone noticed and pulled the big OFF LEVER. Then after a minor adjustment it went back to producing the McDonald's McRIB!
Our favorite guitar pickup guru, Slider's Rod McQueen from Down Under, Sydney just listed two fresh Strat sets at eBay! Besides a set of his standard SRV 59's, Rod has completed these "57 Replique Elite's" above-- just destined for someone's tonal pleasure.
McQueen scours the world for NOS formvar wire and old AlNiCo. Then he thoroughly examines & tests actual vintage pickups in order to replicate them as closely as possible. Actually, I don't believe this. What I really think is that he has a time machine he uses to go back and hang out with Leo. Probably late at night, Fullerton time zone, when the old man was jacked up on coffee & Chesterfield's, and winding away. Just keepin' it real, that's all...
Slider's Vintage Strat pickups even have bakelite covers! Where do ya get fresh bakelite these days? I don't see any "Bakeliteries" anywhere. What? Never mind. But there used to be one on every street corner.

BTW, "Jin" is this guitar's name. Every individual LSL guitar is given a name.
Some good buzz out there about LSL guitars! A secret to their light weight is Sugar Pine bodies. I'm not one of those "Lighter = Better" nerds, having played some boat anchor G&L's with great resonance. However, the right piece of wood is the right piece of wood-- heavy or light. LSL is getting good results with sugar pine, which happens to be light with a tight, straight grain like fir or spruce. Plus, I'm all about some shoulder & back relief. Specs include, 9.5" radius, 6105's, hand shaved '54 style neck and LSL handwound pickups.
Example of Sugar Pine grain:
The Shoreline Gold aged Saticoy, was just listed by SuperSoundMusic in San Diego. I'm very happy to plug their eBay Store, as they are 100% Positive with a 10K+ Feedback score! They're an LSL dealer, as well as lots of other hi-end gear. So give 'em a browse, and check out the LSL specs.
Note: LSL is currently building a Carl Verheyen signature model. What's that tell ya about LSL? Click Here for details!
Every Monday morning should start with an easy on the eyes feature. Maybe we'll start a series for your Mondays.
Our Strat-o-Sister, Gretchen just posted this clip yesterday! And yes, that's Stu on bass. Sounds like the Zepparella guitarist has been woodsheddin' it with some Steve Morse curriculum.
Discover more about Gretchen Menn in our previous post, and links below!
Here's a nice Mother's Day feature! What's it got to do with Mother's Day, you ask? Hey, just roll with it, ok! Maybe your Mother would appreciate this-- "Dear Mom, This stunningly beautiful guitar posted at Stratoblogster made me think of you. I thought it would make for a wonderful eCard this year."
See how easy that was! Now you're off the hook for not remembering to send a bouquet. Or not...
As we continue paying respects to 2011, the 60th anniversary of the Telecaster, here's a fine specimen by DeTemple currently listed for sale. Seller says Michael D. spent 5 years completing this 2009 E model. Besides all the Brazilian rosewood, swamp ash and flame maple, this guitar sports the titanium truss rod & saddles and the 30K year fossilized mastodon nut along with all the usual DeTemple bling, pw and an alligator case. Be sure and clarify that mastodon nut part to Mom!
Seller: luckie_strike - 100% positive. Sacramento based. Lists other hi-end gear, including a Fender RW Tele. Esquire listing has more details and pics.
