Portland, Oregon Nash dealer Nick's Guitar Emporium is listing this matching Strat & Esquire-type pair for less than one FCS Super Relic or Heavy Relic guitar. This pair is "new" with cases included, and full Nash warranty. I always wonder if the warranty on relic guitars applies to any finish issues... Uhhhh, so how would that work anyway? Maybe we just don't go there.

Rich at The Guitar Channel continues to crank out the very best Fusion-Prog guitar content. He recently posted his personal top album list for 2010. If you're into these genres, I highly recommend checking what Rich is listening to and posting these days.


The Jas Obrecht Music Archive is one of 2010's biggest hits. The veteran guitar writer started his blog in May 2010 for the purpose of publishing a huge archive of complete and unedited classic features from Obrecht's 20 years at GP/Frets, and also writing for Living Blues Magazine. Jas also does new features, including his Oct. 2010 Eric Johnson interview. This blog is rapidly climbing the web ranks because it's THE RIGHT STUFF!

Remember these? Blue Oval Industries is currently listing #16 of 100 at their eBay Store, and say they have more units-- all within the first 25 pieces. These Shelby Strats are new condition-unplayed, and in original packaging with all candy.


Originally released in Spring of '08, this FCS produced run was available exclusively through Ford Motor Company at $5600 each. Blue Oval Industries, a hi-performance Mustang parts supplier, acquired some of these Strats, and currently list #16 as a Buy It Now at $4400.

Relic'd Replica Smashed Strat Fragments?

Fine Artist, Matt D. McCarthy

What if Fender Custom Shop started making replica pieces from famous smashed Strats, complete with a COA for each fragment? 


Maybe British fine artist Matt D. McCarthy envisioned this when he fashioned the above object for a Hendrix themed art piece. McCarthy works in several art mediums, and is also a big Hendrix fan. Except for the jack plate, the pictured item does not come from an actual Strat, but was instead fashioned & shaped from balsa wood, then stained and painted. 

This is but one component of an assemblage piece entitled, "Butterfly Effect - Hendrix in London, 1967"

So it is NOT available thru FCS Showcase dealers in a little tweed jewelry case with a COA.

Can you friggin' deal with this already?! Remember that most Trussart bodies are all metal-- but this one steps into the hybrid zone, similar to Gigliotti yet still retaining the Trussart vibe with a polite nod to Zemaitis. AND IT'S A STRAT!

Eric Johnson Really Answered YOUR Questions!

Perhaps the next best thing to Jas Obrecht's brilliant Oct. 2010 EJ interview is Joe Bosso's MusicRadar feature JUST POSTED. Bosso recently solicited questions for EJ from his fans, resulting in a great interview format!

I even stepped out of the Strat box submitting a question re: the potential of an Eric Johnson signature Gibson guitar i.e. an "EJ-335". His answer is sure to inspire and/or incite a wide variety of reactions depending upon where one is on the Fender - Gibson scale, or maybe more accurately, the secret mystery cult codes of the Gibson hierarchy scale. But we'll leave that up to your own interpretations...

Another great question addresses the evolution of his soloing in terms of rhythmic pulse vs stepping outside. I dig stuff like this!

Impressive Guitar Repair Job!




Most of us have heard or read guitar repair horror stories from guys who work on guitars. Of course this is how luthiers brag about what they do. But we'd be in deep doo doo without 'em! Especially the owner of the Gibson Nighthawk in this video who somehow backed over the neck of his guitar with a TRUCK. We aren't told why he did this. Maybe he needed a sturdy ramp for an oil change and accidentally grabbed the Nighthawk instead of the Tele.

Scott Campbell of Indianapolis based SDC guitars was able to take care of it though. He might have gotten a truck out of the deal too! At any rate, if you have a good guitar tech make sure to tip 'em well this holiday! And if you live in Indy, it's pretty obvious who you should be takin' your work to.

As I play in the snow in the Washington Cascades this week, here's a Friday feature from the archive. This Strat was built from scratch with Texas mesquite. Most of us think of mesquite as a small scrub brush type of plant, but certain parts of Texas have bigASS mesquite! This original feature was actually the culmination of a few posts we did as the builder (FRANK) documented the entire build from the initial block of mesquite.

Currently listed by Hawaii based seller j.l.martin-vintage-guitars this 1965 Oly White rosewood includes original trem cover and arm, and OHSC with late 65-66 non-tail logo. The seller includes extensive dissection photos of the electronics. A few rear shots of the pickups show a "61" year in the date markings which seems pretty old for a '65 config. Old is good, especially pre-CBS old, but do your research and ask the seller about it. He is 100% rated with lots of history, as well as other gear listed. He's also listing a 62 brown Deluxe right now.


Nitro Olympic White was a custom color option then. With so many vintage bursts-- it's cool finding decent solid finish Strats from this era.

Silver Guitar Coin Picks Pendants

Vintage Silver Coin Picks and Pick Holders

Yeah, I'm pimpin' a lot of stuff lately for the holidays. So shoot me. At least you're not seeing any of those $150 guitar packs here-- y'know the cheap guitar with the mini amp, gig bag, tuner, cord, strap, picks and a pack of Skittles. And that's the hottest selling "music gear" out there right now!

But not here folks. I'm genuinely trying to find a few cool and interesting things for guitar people. Today, let's look at silver.


Remember that vintage coins don't really have much "collectible" value unless they're in mint condition-- yeah, that's where the term mint comes from. Everything that's been in circulation, even though it may be old and pure silver, ain't been mint since it left the mint. So, old coins with wear and tear may as well become guitar picks and serve a finer purpose. Besides, we gotta find some new uses for old American money anyway. The current stuff doesn't even make good guitar picks. Are you in the holiday mood yet?

eBay seller giantguitars is the maker of MOJO PICKS, produced from pre-1964 US silver coins, as well as few PESO picks. After 1964, American silver coins switched from 90% silver to nickel clad copper. So basically, all Mojo Picks are at least 90% silver.
