TrueFire Kings of Tone Review

NYC Session guitarist Jeff McErlain & the good folks at TrueFire were kind enough to send me Jeff's Kings of Tone interactive instruction DVD for review. I think they just knew I really needed this stuff, especially since they also included Jeff's "50 Blues Guitar Licks You Must Know". And know them, I must now!

TrueFire is one of the top guitar & bass interactive lesson resources out there. You can either access them online or get the DVD's. Their contributing artist roster is a huge who's who of killer players i.e. Larry Carlton, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Eric Johnson, Buckethead, Lee Ritenour, etc., etc, etc...

I first discovered Jeff McErlain from the sound samples at the Michael Tuttle Guitars site. In Kings of Tone, Jeff focuses on several technical aspects of 12 different iconic guitar players. Jeff dissects the styles, touch, tones, amps, pedals, guitars and setups of Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, The Edge, Angus Young, David Gilmour, Keith Richards and Mark Knopfler. This all breaks down into 137 lesson clips spanning 400+ minutes.

I confess I'm not through it all yet, and I still need to get into the 50 Blues Licks disc, but just want to let people know so far, I'm really impressed with the high quality presentation, options and tools. This is really cool stuff! So browse around the TrueFire site and check out their wealth of resources. And if you've been considering Kings of Tone, you have my recommendation!
