This was Buffalo for the last couple weeks. We just got home yesterday after spending the holidays with family in the Buffalo area. The weather outside was frightful, and stayed frightful. So I continued to blog by the fire whilst overeating and drinking. Travel was a bit funky, and we didn't get out as much as I'd wished. Although we made it to a few restaurants and checked out a local Blues character named Mr. Conrad at a homey little joint called Double D's. I also got to check out the local Bison Aviator Red Ale, as recommended by a reader prior to the trip. Thanks again!
Ate good Italian food & the obligatory hot wings. Got up early mornings to walk it off at a mall near the UB. They open the malls early for walkers who'd rather not be found in cryogenic mis-suspension next April, when the snow plow berms finally melt. The mall was still running Christmas muzak on Jan. 6, though they had since removed the singing bears from the center area.
Oh yeah, they also took us to a pub called Grover's, which has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Grover's has a cheeseburger soup, and 12 oz. burgers on the menu. A big poster of FN's Guy Fieri lives on the wall of fame. Fieri is the human version of cheeseburger soup. Very busy place, but nice local buzz.
Buffalo also has a Guitar Center, but when you go inside you could be anywhere, right. I went inside for a set of strings, but mainly to pretend I was in Phoenix for a few minutes.
We watched the Bills beat the Colts 30-7 because... it didn't matter. Yeah, that's why. We watched it on TV, and saw some shirtless Bills fans at the game in the -7F wind chill conditions. True Buffalonians with "TimBits" nipples-- ya gotta live in Buffalo to get that one! A couple days later we heard rumors that somebody might buy The Bills and take 'em to Los Angeles. That would piss some people off-- especially those guys without the shirts.
Sitting in the plane on Wednesday, we had to de-ice before departing. How poetic.
Here's to the people of Buffalo! Here's to Tim Horton's coffee & donuts!
Stay thirsty my friends, but most of all stay warm!
