Why Not a Spalted Maple Strat ?

Ever heard the term "Spalted" or "Spalted Maple"? A Google Image search turned up several pages of results ranging from guitar & bass bodies, like the one pictured, to furniture and even bowls. Spalted wood is actually wood that is in the process of decaying. Maple in that condition can actually have some interesting and aesthetic patterns, although it's not what most of us typically associate with maple.

Some people like it for its "aged" effect.
